Nouveautés SoWat pour septembre 2010
Après la "SoWat'Attitud", la société française C2C va proposer à la rentrée une solution globale contre les mégots.
Parce que nous croyons possible de diminuer significativement et DURABLEMENT le nombre de mégots jetés n'importe où, la société C2C va proposer gratuitement début octobre des cendriers sur pied originaux pour les terrasses des cafés aux couleurs des cendriers individuels SoWat déjà disponibles en France.
Nous voulons que tout le monde puisse participer à l'effort de sensibilisation des fumeurs au contrôle de leurs déchets, pour ce faire nous avions déjà créé les concepts :
"SoWat'Attitud"
et
"les Ambassadeurs SoWat". (voir CP précédents)
Nous allons maintenant continuer nos efforts en mettant gratuitement à la disposition des établissements recevant des fumeurs, des cendriers extérieurs dans chacun des lieux de ventes des petits SoWat individuels.

Le cendrier est baptisé Sowat, (Smoking Only With AshTray). Il coute le prix de deux paquets de cigarettes / Yves Salvat
Hubert Calvet, à Saint-Cyr les Vignes, s'est préoccupé de la pollution par les filtres de cigarettes. Il propose un étui-cendrier, peu encombrant, durable, réalisé avec des phares recyclés
Un cendrier embarqué pour ne pas réduire la planète en cendre, tel est le credo de Hubert Calvet. Depuis Saint-Cyr-les-Vignes, il a imaginé avec ses associés et sa société C2C un étui pour éliminer les mégots, un objet à tiroir au sens propre comme au figuré.
« Un système qui permette de récupérer les filtres sans avoir à se préoccuper d'un cendrier de poche. On a essayé de greffer un tiroir au paquet de cigarettes et de faire un objet joli ».
La matière première, ce sont… les phares de voitures recyclés, « régénérés, réinjectés ». La production est réalisée à Saint-Julien en Chapteuil et dans un centre de travailleurs handicapés vers le Mézenc. 5 000 étuis attendent leur commercialisation. Le brevet a été déposé en octobre dernier : « On a travaillé sur le projet un an et demi ». Hubert Calvet a mis toutes ses économies dans un cendrier fabriqué avec des phares, et l'on pourrait le croire illuminé, s'il ne brillait par sa cohérence.
D'abord, il n'incite pas à fumer, lui-même a arrêté il y a longtemps mais constate : « Il y a plus de 12 millions de fumeurs en France. On est revenu cinq ans en arrière avec une progression de 2,9 % en 2009 ». Il a plus lourd encore comme arguments : « 845 000 tonnes de mégots jetés chaque année de par le monde. 5500 milliards de cigarettes et 4500 milliards de filtres ». Ils bouchent les artères des nappes phréatiques, du fait de leurs métaux lourds, font tousser les services de nettoyage des plages et des grandes villes, noircissent les pistes de ski. Ils mettent le feu aux forêts : « Le cendrier est étanche et hermétique, donc on n'écrase pas le mégot, on ferme et le manque d'oxygène l'étouffe en trois secondes ». C'est ainsi sans feu, sans fumée, sans odeur.
Le paquet de 20 cigarettes s'en trouve élargi de trois millimètres, épaissi de 11, et prend 30 grammes : « C'est l'encombrement d'un paquet de 25 ».
Hubert Calvet compte sur le monde politique pour la commercialisation au moins autant que sur les marchands de tabac. Il a vécu aux États-Unis et témoigne : « A Miami 80 % des fumeurs jettent leurs mégots sur la plage et il y a une vraie pression des pouvoirs publics. Le maire de San Francisco a demandé à son conseil de prendre une taxe pour le nettoyage ». À Paris et à Lyon, on met des amendes.
Le cendrier embarqué est décliné en fluo, classe, décontracté… L'objet est multiple et peut véhiculer des messages, comme celui de veiller sur les forêts corses. Il sort de Saint-Cyr, sera présenté au concours Lépine, il doit faire long feu.

C2C of France has launched SOWAT® – an environmentally friendly, recycled clip-on ashtray that can be attached to a packet of cigarettes, enabling smokers to store cigarette butts for safe and clean disposal. SOWAT® is designed to encourage environmentally friendly consumer behaviour among smokers. It is made of recycled polycarbonate and is attached to the cigarette pack, with a retractable drawer to extinguish cigarettes. It can store up to 10 butts for easy disposal at a later time.
Having carried out extensive studies of smokers’ behaviour, French company C2C realised that a potential solution to the problem would lie in attaching an ashtray directly to the cigarette pack, which would enable the smoker to extinguish, and then store, the cigarette end. In this way, safe and clean disposal of the cigarette butts would be easier and more convenient for smokers, as the ashtray is available at all times.
The disposal of cigarette ends represents a serious problem. The City of London Corporation, which runs the financial district of the British capital, has recently introduced an £80 fine for dropping cigarette butts in the street. This reflects the extent of smoking-related litter – an estimated 7,000 cigarettes butts are discarded in the Square Mile every day.
Numerous disposable pocket-sized ashtrays are distributed by cigarette manufacturers, which are also then thrown away, generating further waste. In addition, cigarette packets, lighters and matches are frequently dropped in the street by smokers. All of this adds up to a substantial litter problem, which has been accentuated by the ban on smoking in public places, recently introduced across England – indeed, smokers are now more likely to smoke in the street, where ashtrays or litter bins are not always available.
Alongside the problems of littering, cigarette butts also cause other environmental problems. As cigarettes are often still burning when they are discarded, smokers frequently stamp on them in order to extinguish the flame, after dropping them in the street, and the cigarette butt is left on the ground afterwards.
A recent study by biologists at San Diego University (USA) estimated that 845,000 tonnes of cigarette butts are discarded worldwide every year. The study showed that each butt contains potentially toxic heavy metals, phenols, arsenic, acids and chloride, which can accumulate in water sources (eventually killing marine life). The San Diego University study recommended that cigarette butts be classified as hazardous waste.
As a result of this research, C2C has launched the SOWAT® case – with SOWAT® standing for Smoke Only With Ash Tray – which was patented in September 2009. The case is airtight, lightweight and attractive. It is not bulky and is designed to fit in a pocket. It fits any standard flip-top, 20-cigarette pack. It is available in many versions, from more subdued styles in carbon or mahogany colours to fun models in fluorescent shades. Elegant models in gold, as well as a fully transparent design, are also available. SOWAT® can also be customised with the logos of associations or companies.
SOWAT® is made of entirely recycled materials. Moreover, as the factories used to make the SOWAT® ashtray are located in France, the product’s carbon footprint is low within Europe. Depending on volumes sold and growth in demand, C2C will set up production units in other countries, in due country, so as to keep the carbon footprint of the SOWAT® operation down.
